Frosted

My daughter was bored.  I had cake mix and frosting in the pantry.  I let her have fun.

Some she frosted and some I frosted.

We'll let you figure out which in this batch is mine and which is hers.

Yep, we might just have The Next Food Network Star on our hands.
And why is it that the container of frosting states to refrigerate after opening but cupcakes can sit out?  Answer me that?

Happy Birthday Nana!  We love you.

the frosting question - good one. Are we just assuming that they can stay out? Maybe we need to keep them in the fridge? Or just eat them on the spot?

Yes, let's eat them now.

This germaphobe refrigerates cupcakes if it is more than a day. I'm assuming the milk and butter are the problem (at least in homemade frosting?). My grandmother leaves her butter out on the counter at all times. Freaks me out.
I think your daughter's cupcakes are lovely. ;)

Good point, never thought of that!

My question is - why does it seem there is never quite enough frosting? The container needs to be a smidge bigger - probably so that I have to buy two of them. The cupcakes sure look good!

I would eat either though...come on...it is chocolate.

Maybe the frosting people just assume the cupcakes will be devoured within a matter of minutes.

If you put the opened frosting back in the cupboard, you might forget about it for a few weeks. By that time the frosting will be bad. But you're going to eat the cupcakes within a few days (or hours at my house). So, to preserve your opened can of frosting, you should refrigerate it.

I just made that up, but it sounds like it could be true!

Ummm..I have no idea about the frosting.

But, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't care which one I ate!

Glad you guys had fun baking!

Ha Ha That is a good question. Probably nothing really needs to be refrigerated but they just have to cover their corporate buns in case someone gets sick.
If it is on your cupcakes that you let sit out and something happens they don't care!
Same thing with Pumpkin Pie - you are supposed to refrigerate that but the ones in the bakery at the store sit out for days....even weeks. I asked the bakery lady one year. She said it was because they didn't put any dairy products in it and it had lots of preservatives. Ha ha The bakery pie basically sucks! Ha
Anyway, I'm a little talkative tonight. I just wanted to tell you that you are a great mom for letting your daughter learn and have fun - Love her cute cupcake!

Don't judge a cupcake by its frosting?

That question belongs right there with "Why are there 12 hotdogs in a pack, but buns come in 8s?"

Hmmmmmm...too close to call there.
