Cahoots! I tell you!

Does anyone else believe that battery companies and baby/toy companies are in cahoots together? Seriously, toys that you think aren't that expensive over time can cost you hundreds of dollars in batteries. Take for example my son's swing. He loves it. LOVES IT! Since the day we brought him home from the hospital he has wanted to swing. I am ok with this because it gives me a break. It is like a babysitter and it charges by the hour. You see, the swing takes 4 D size batteries. I swear every two weeks or less we are replacing the things. Now why is it that swings have to run on batteries? Why can't they be electric and just plug into the wall? Or at least have that option? I am responsible. I would make sure the baby didn't get hurt. I totally don't understand. BG has so many toys that I am sure would be really cool if I ever got around to costco to get batteries for them. Her poor tickle me Elmo just sits there untickled because he is dead (well, not "dead", I mean I didn't kill Elmo, he is just out of batteries).
I seriously think before kids the only package of batteries I needed to buy was a pack of AA for the remotes and they seemed to last forever (or I just stole them from another remote in the house).
Duracell you are my pimp and I seem to be your battery whore!

I know what you mean. It seems like every time I go looking for a battery, they've all been used up!

Batteries are going to be the death of me. Something's always running out of juice... the smoke detectors, CO2 detector, remote controls, various loud kid toys.....

We are all about the rechargeable batteries in our house. We spent a little more up front for enough batteries and the chargers but we have more than made that back in not having to by new ones all the time. We have the one that are in the particular devices and then a couple of sets of spares in all sizes. It has worked out really well so far.

Thanks for stopping by! The Crockpot blog is fun to check out...I like passing that along!

And I still want a Tickle-Me-Elmo! I think my son will "need" one before too long! ha!

Love your blog!!! I'm in the midwest also!! It's so funny you mention swings. We were just in the market for one and I was struggling with the same idea that they run on batteries and while energizer does have that cute little bunny, I don't feel like feeding it for the rest of my swings life. Would you believe that Fisher Price makes a swing that will plug in or run on batteries?? We LOVE it!!! Anyways, I'm totaly with you on there being a conspiracy...same as the ratio of hotdogs to buns!

I totally agree!! I thought batteries would be the death of me when my trio was still small enough for swings. Crazy isn't it? There is still always some toy that needs new batteries though. UGH!!!!!!!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. And..yes, for us, for right now, the food thing seems to work.

Thanks for stopping by our blog, hope you come back often!

About the swing/battery problem, we had the same problem. Until I realized that hey we could just get swings that PLUGGED IN! The regular battery swings were on clearance for $13 each at Walmart or Target when we got them so we would have EASILY spent 4x that or more on batteries over the course of 6 months and 2 kids. So we got the Rainforest cradle swing that plugs in. I was always afraid of having the batteries die during one of their naps LOL

Try Target batteries (in the $1 section) they last in toys just as long as the rest. But usually I forget all about that and end up forking over big bucks to Duracell :(

Ok, so onto the battery ordeal. EVERYTHING eats up batteries. I work with kiddos under three and we have elmo to vaccum cleaners. I have bought multiple bags of batteries and they are NOT cheap
:(

Thanks for visiting my blog! I also "dig" comments to ;)

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Your blog has made laugh so much! Especially the Home Depot one. I work at HD and we get all kinds of crazy calls, but never any like that!

I agree on the batteries. My daughter loved her swing to. I think a plug would have been so perfect. I almost let my husband go Tim Taylor on it, but decided against it. I was so happy the day I didn't have to feed batteries into it anymore.

Anyway, I'll be reading back through some of your older blogs to catch up. Can't wait to read more!
