Chef Boyardee

Ok, so many of you who know me already know that I have never been a great cook. For the first 7 years if hubby did not make a meal we probably would have starved (or just went out to eat). Well, since leaving my job to stay home with baby girl, the household chores have pretty much become my job including dinner. Now at first the meals were pretty basic you know like spaghetti. Step one: Boil water, Step 2: Put pasta in, Step 3: Throw it against the wall; if it sticks it's done, Step 4: Pour sauce out of jar and heat, and Finally Step 5: Enjoy!

Well as the months have gone by I have slowly began trying different recipes and some have actually turned out. Poor Hubby, he will tell me one was really good and then it is like I hit the jackpot and in a two week time span we eat it like 8 times!

Anyways, so this week I decided that I would make curry something because even though I don't particularly enjoy it I know Hubby does. So here I am on my two favorite recipe sites cooks.com and foodnetwork.com searching for the perfect curry something to make. Finally I find a recipe for chicken curry with cous cous salad. I just happen to have most of the ingredients. So I start making the chicken and it turns out perfect. So then I start making the cous cous salad and it turns out perfect (except that I forgot to do the salad part so it was just plain cous cous, but hey, it was still perfect). Finally it is time for the curry sauce. So far I am pretty proud of myself for this great accomplishment of making dinner. Anyways, I am making the sauce and I am looking all over for the curry powder. I know we have it. I remember Hubby buying it and me thinking GROSS I will never eat that. So I am searching and searching, finally I find a ziploc bag labeled CP (I don't have a spice rack so when I buy in bulk I just keep them in ziplocs. Hey it works, well usually). So I put a heaping tablespoon in and add just a little extra because sometimes I feel like I am Emerald and I can eyeball it better. So I plate the wonderful meal I have just made. I put the cous cous on the plate, top it with chicken and finally pour my curry sauce all over it. Hubby even commented that it looked good! So we sit down to eat and Hubby got up to get something so I took my first bite. OH MY GOD! I couldn't get water in my mouth fast enough. THIS CURRY WAS MOTHER******* HOT! I put about 3 pieces of gum in my mouth but nothing was helping. Hubby was looking at me like I was crazy and over exaggerating because in his words "curry is spicy but not hot Mommy." I tell him he has to try it because it is the hottest thing I have ever eaten. So he takes a bite and had a less dramatic reaction to my wonderful curry chicken but still thought it was pretty darn hot. Both puzzled on why my wonderful curry chicken turned out so bad we scrapped it and made grilled cheese sandwiches (one of my specalities). Well after we were done we started cleaning up. Hubby looks over by the stove and sees my ziploc of "CP" and asked what I added to the sauce. I was like what are you talking about that is the curry, you know CP, "Curry Powder." He starts laughing at me and then informs me that curry is yellow not red and "CP" stands for Cayene Pepper! Just add it to the rest of my natural cooking disasters! So does anyone need me to cater their next event?

Reminds me of the time I put 6 TABLESPOONS of cayenne pepper in my chili instead of 6T of chili powder. Huge difference! In my defense, they are the same color :)
